Japan through art & stories — is what koibi.com is all about. In addition to helping to design the concept of Koibi, we have set up the Shopify e-commerce store, customized the theme, handled the branding and communication, created the logo, and implemented artwork.
The launched website reflects a minimal concept with references to the Japanese culture, as seen, for instance, in the colors inspired by the beautiful Koi carp. As a new brand without much awareness, we wanted to succeed with a unique identity and that the audience would understand the reference to Japan from early interaction.
The circular logo of Koibi is done in vector format to be scalable for any project. With the color scheme combined with the shape of the 'Hinomaru' (Flag of Japan) — we think the audience can easily catch the embedded reference. The typeface is customized with a wavy expression to leave the audience with a reminiscence of peace, like when you see a koi fish swimming around beautifully and balanced.
Moreover, we have focused on the visual side, where the emphasis has been on images and art pieces. As a result, the site is modern and commercial with a creative and contemporary touch.
Special to the Shopify store is the sections everywhere functionality implemented in Shopify 2.0, giving control to add dynamic design elements on several pages. Also, we created a culture page displaying collections differently when browsing in contrast to the traditional experience.
Under the hood, we have assisted in installing a few plugins to enable a print-on-demand service and linking up social media feeds for extra exposure. All customized to match the visual branding and add functionality.
As for SEO, the blog is helpful in both generating traffic and inspiring visitors to learn more about Japanese culture. In addition to the 'lost in translation' experiences that one can find in Japan.
